Operating from a purpose-built facility on a 67-hectare site at Epping, the Melbourne Market and National Flower Centre provide the critical link between growers, wholesalers, and retailers in the fresh produce and flower supply chains. It’s proximity to Melbourne’s freeways allows for convenient inbound delivery from farm to market and outbound delivery locally, interstate or overseas.

The Melbourne Market moved from an ageing West Melbourne site to the safer, more efficient and modern Epping facility in 2015. The move provided businesses with significant food handling and logistical advantages and the option to consolidate operations within the market to reduce handling, transport and labour costs.

Fruit and Vegetables

The fruit and vegetable market consists of two areas offering an abundance of fresh local and imported produce: the Trading Floor and Buyers Walk. The Trading Floor accommodates 330 stands of over 12,500 square meters and is home to many of the market’s small to medium growers and wholesalers. The Buyers’ Walk is made up of permanent stores occupied by more than 100 larger wholesalers and some of Australia’s biggest fresh produce distributors.

Patronage is available to approved buyers from food-related industries including independent supermarkets, greengrocers, providores, hospitality businesses, aged care facilities, food processors and manufacturers.

The NFC features 152 permanent stands and purpose-built cool rooms occupied by more than 60 growers and sellers, providing optimal facilities for trade within Victoria, Australia and international export. More than 650+ floristry businesses visit the NFC on key trading days: Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday.
